Words cannot express how grateful I am for having been awarded the Chia Fan Foundation scholarship. I pay all of my tuition through working at my co-op, so I am grateful to have been able to save some money through this generous scholarship. This has allowed me to work less hours and focus on my academics;
which I am truly appreciative of. I cannot thank you enough for taking the time to create such generous opportunities for students such as myself.

Coming from a blue-collar family, attending college was not seen as a priority and when I made the decision to further my education, it was made clear to me my family would not be able to help in anyway. As a first-generation college student, I am hoping this changes the viewpoint of my family, encourages my younger siblings to also further their education, and to overall better the well-being of our family. I couldn’t achieve my goals without the generosity of donors like you.
Now that I have won this scholarship, I will have the money to pay finish paying for my degree. I can now focus on eliminating concerns I have over affording school and focus on my coursework. Thank you. At 26 years old, it was a life changing decision for me to leave a stable job in the food service industry and pursue finishing my education. While my return to college has been successful so far, it has brought some elements of financial insecurity. Receiving additional financial aid from the Chia Fan Scholarship has opened many opportunities for myself to gain additional education. Before receiving the scholarship, I was uncertain on how I would be able to invest in important certificates that will enhance my ability and present my value to companies.
